Changwon to Host International Children’s Literature Festival

The city of Changwon in South Gyeongsang Province will host Korea’s only festival for children’s literature. City officials said earlier this week that the 2013 Changwon International Children’s Literature Festival will take place from May 24 through 26.
This year’s event will be centered on fantasy books with world-renowned authors of fantasy novels invited, including France’s Sophie Audouin-Mamikonian, who is well-known for “Tara Duncan,” and Germany’s Ralf Isau.
Korean writers will also take part in the festival, giving visitors a chance to interact with creators of some of their favorite works.
The festival will also offer a wide variety of performances and hands-on programs for children, such as poem recitals, fantasy magic shows and puppet plays.
In addition, the city runs a contest for the best book reports on works that won the Changwon Children’s Literature Award. Any elementary and middle schoolchildren can submit an entry. The winners will be given their prizes on May 26, when the festival winds down. / Apr. 18, 2013 11:52 KST
