◆ Jinhae Art Village
Jinhae Art Village, located in historic Ungcheon village, Changwon, also remodeled a closed school in March, 2005. This is an attraction where many tourists from diverse cities as well as citizens in Changwon enjoy visiting.
The art village has a local history museum and permanent exhibition venue which display artifacts created by artists working there.
It has provided a place for artists in a difficult situation to be creative. Western painters, Korean painters, painters in a literary artist’s style, the Jinhae Artifact Association, the Photographers Club and the Representationalists Club have been housed in the village.
The local history museum has three halls — one for farming tools through which visitors can feel the wisdom of ancestors, another for living tools and a third for cooking and kitchen utensils.
School uniforms and text books used in the 1960s-70s are also displayed and there is a traditional crafts exhibition room to show crafts made from wood, rope and hanji, traditional Korean paper made from mulberry trees.
The opening hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in winter (from November to March) and in summer, it opens from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Last admissions are an hour before closing. On Monday and national holidays, the village is closed. Entrance is free. Reservations are required for group viewing.Address: 380, Seongnae-dong, Jinhae-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do TEL: +82-55-545-0250
